We Love Hearing From Our Fans

September 18, 2012

Yesterday, we received a letter from a new fan, Daniel, who is based in France.  He told us what he likes about our sound, the blend of influences he heard, and just wanted to acknowledge that our music resonated with him.

I’m not sure Daniel realizes (granted I emailed him back explaining this) how much getting his email, and notes from fans in general, means to us.  There is so much vulnerability I feel when I’ve put my heart and soul – every iota of passion I can muster up – into writing a song, and then share it with the world.  I think every artist feels that way about presenting their work — wondering how it will be received, if people will be moved by it, relate to it, etc etc.

Thanks to all the fans who have taken the time to give our music a chance.  Whether you live in LA and discovered us at one of our shows, or live across the United States or overseas and have discovered our music via social media, radio, or word of mouth, THANK YOU for rocking The Endangered on your home stereo systems, your MP3 players, in the car on the way to work. . . wherever you do your listening, we are honored to be on your playlist.  Without you, our loyal fans, we would be nowhere.  Now, carrying the inspiration of knowing you’re out there, we are preparing to record our next album and cannot wait to share the new songs with you.

The Best Part of Music: Playing Live

May 24, 2012

Last night we had a great time playing at The Federal in NoHo, CA.  It was a special night for a variety of reasons:

a) we had the pleasure of Brandon Coleman gracing us with his mesmerizing keyboard chops!

b)the incredible Regiment Horns played the set with us. Never having rehearsed with us, they absolutely killed it and synced with our band as if it was effortless!

c) percussionist Leddie Garcia was adding amazing textures and thrilling polyrhythms to the mix!

The evening reminded me that nothing is more exciting than the spontaneity of performing with new players at a moments notice and experiencing the beauty that subsequently unfolds.  As enjoyable as writing and recording is (and don’t get me wrong, I love it!) there is not a better feeling in the world than taking songs you’ve written and experimenting and expanding on them in a live format.  And the only thing that tops that is seeing how other musicians interpret your music — and seeing the smiles on their faces as they are doing so.

Performing is our passion.  We can’t wait for you to see The Endangered live and in the moment if you have not yet!  A perfect opportunity to do so is at our EP release event on June 6th at Molly Malones in LA.  Whether you live in LA, nearby, or half way across the world, please know we would love having you at our EP release party to celebrate with us!

Talking Shop

April 26, 2012

Hello world.  I am really excited about the launch of The Endangered’s new website and the release of our new EP this month!  Looking forward to using this blog as a forum to communicate with fans and keep everyone in the loop on what’s going on behind the scenes with the band.

As you probably know by now, I play guitar in The Endangered.  But I am also a studio geek and love the art of music production.  The band was thrilled we got to do all the primary recording of our new EP at the historic Ocean Way studios in Hollywood (artists ranging from Sinatra to Michael Jackson to Radiohead have recorded there).   But when we are not lucky enough to be in one of the worlds greatest recording rooms, we spend a lot of time at my studio, Sound Lab Los Feliz, where we write, record, and often times just hang.  And speaking of the studio, look out for a lot of gear talk from me, because I love talking shop! Cheers.
